Online roulette is a simple game. You put your chips on your favorite number or group and collect your winnings when you hit. The less likely it is that you will hit, the more you get paid when you do.
Here is some basic odds information for online roulette.
Basic Online Roulette Odds
Your payout odds on any specific number or group of numbers are what the true odds would be if there were no zero or double zero on the wheel. Since there are 36 non-zero numbers, your payout odds are 35-to-1 on any one number. However, your true odds of hitting the number are 36-to-1 on a single zero wheel and 37-to-1 on a double zero wheel.
A group of four numbers pays 8-to-1, although the true odds are 8.5-to-1 on a double zero wheel. Bets such as black/red or odd/even pay even money, although the presence of the zeroes make either side a slightly worse than 50-50 proposition.
Basic House Edges in Online Roulette
The overall house edge on an American Roulette wheel with a zero and a double zero is about 5.26 percent. The European wheel, with half as many zeroes, has about half the edge, around 2.6 percent.
If you play on a roulette wheel that offers the opportunity to win back even money bets when a zero comes, the housed edge on these bets is an impressively low 1.35 percent. If you choose to play a five number "basket bet" on a double zero wheel, the house edge is 7.89 percent. This is clearly a bet to avoid.
