Who says you can't win a million dollars playing video poker? In 2005, Dennis Zucker, a retired businessman from Buffalo Grove, Illinois, scored higher than 197 other players over a four-hour period to win Harrah's Video Poker Tournament.

The tournament, Video Poker Millionaire Maker, was inspired by Harrah's Millionaire Maker Slot Tournament, which has been around since 1995.

During the video poker championship, players competed on Double-Double Bonus machines. Each player started out with 1,000 credits, and everyone had to meet certain wagering and hand playing requirements. At one point early on in the competition, Zucker ended up with four Aces on three separate occasions.

After the first half of play, Zucker amassed 5,710 credits. During the second half of the tournament , Zucker managed to collect only 695 additional credits. His total after both rounds was 6,405. He had 25 more credits than the second place finisher, but that small margin of victory was still enough to eran Dennis a million dollar payday.

Dennis and his wife Gloria have been avid players for years. Zucker did not memorize every single aspect of perfect video poker strategy, but because he plays so frequently, Zucker developed a natural feel for knowing which cards to hold and which ones to dump. He plans to use his winnings to take care of his grandchildren.
